
Marion Cox Hughey, 87 of Cheshire and formerly a long time resident of Vernon entered into heaven on May 1, 2016. She was a beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
She was born May 20, 1928 to Freeman and Martha Cox in Dorchester, MA.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Robert Hughey and their children; Sharon Hughey, Richard and wife Kathy Hughey, Lynda and husband Paul Mathewson, Robin and husband Joseph Kline, and Cathy and husband Gary Merrill, 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She also leaves sister Shirley and brother-in-law Joseph Livergood, and sister in law Joy Cox. Marion was predeceased by brother Leslie Cox.

Marion graduated from Arlington High School, held a B.S. from Gordon College in Religious Education, and a Master's' degree from St. Joseph's College in Education. She was employed by the Newington School System for 20 years as an Early Childhood Special Education teacher.
Marion built her life around her love for Jesus. She was actively involved in her church in a variety of capacities. She had a heart for children's ministries and a passion for worldwide missions.She was noted as a great story teller and engaged children through the use of puppets, often using this gift to tell children about the Bible. She went on several short term missions trips, both within the U.S. and abroad, including Australia and Russia. Marion had a servant's heart and delivered meals and companionship to those in need.

In addition to opening her home to missionaries, Marion was known for entertaining and hosting picnics on her back porch. Her hobbies included smocking, stamping, and sewing. Family was a very important aspect of Marion's life. She loved investing in her grandchildren, providing an array of experiences. Some favorites include trips to the beach, boat rides, train rides, museums, and various other adventures.
Calling hours will be held from 5-8 pm on Friday, May 6, 2016, at Ladd-Turkington and Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road, Vernon. A service celebrating Marion's life will be held at Ellington Wesleyan Church, 276 Crystal Lake Road, Ellington at 11 am on Saturday, May 7, 2016. Burial will follow at Ellington Center Cemetery.
