Newington Obituary: Mary Baker, 90

Mary V. (Hyland) Baker, 90, of Carlsbad, CA, formerly of Newington and West Hartford, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 17, 2016. She was the beloved wife of the late Frederick Baker.

Born in Waterbury, daughter of the late George and Johanna (Slater) Hyland, she lived in West Hartford prior to moving to Newington where she spent over 30 years. Mary was a member of St. Mary's Church, Newington where she served as Eucharistic Minister, member of their Ladies Guild, and Small Christian Community Group.

A loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she leaves her two daughters, Marjorie Gawitt of Carlsbad, CA, Karen Buteau and her husband, James, of Newington, her eight grandchildren, Jessica, Gregory, Stephen, Jason, Kristen, Eunice, Danielle and William, and seven great grandchildren. She also leaves her brother, George Hyland of Torrington, and her two sisters, Evelyn Lukacs of SC, and Elizabeth Cowell of Burlington, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her two sons, William and Robert Baker.

Her funeral service will begin on Friday at 9:00 a.m. at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, followed by a Mass of Catholic Burial a 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Newington. She will be laid to rest in the Village Cemetery, Wethersfield. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Newington Memorial.
