Newington Obituary: Mary Killawee, 85

On Wednesday, March 15, 2017, Mary E. Killawee, 85, was called to eternal life at Hartford Hospital.

Born in Canaan on July 14, 1931, she was a longtime Newington resident. She served our country with pride in the United States Army during the Korean War, and pursued a career in the Army Reserves, retiring after 30 years of dedicated service.

Left to honor and cherish her memory are her brother John Killawee and his wife Joan of Canaan; nieces Sharon Smith of TX, Susan Killawee of TN, Nancy Killawee of Copake Lake, NY; nephews Peter John Killawee and wife Lauren of TN, Mick Riska of Edgermont, MA, and Michael Roy of Winsted, and two very special ladies who were not only dear friends but provided loving care to Mary whenever she needed, Lucia Giraldo and Diva Hurtado, both of Newington.

Her life and funeral will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 21, at 10:00 AM from Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial with an 11:30 AM Liturgy of Christian Burial at Church of the Holy Spirit. Rites of Committal will follow the Mass at West Meadow Cemetery.
