Newington Obituary: Norman Hutt, 97

Norman Edward Hutt, 97 passed away peacefully on Friday, April 28th 2017 surrounded by his loving family.

Norman was born August 7th 1919 in Hartford and grew up in the Groton Street area. He was the son of Elizabeth F. Murphy and Albert Menter Hutt. He attended Hartford Public Schools before being employed at Colt Manufacturing.

In 1942, he enlisted in the US Navy and was trained at the Dartmouth Royal Naval College in Devon, England. He proudly served our country and participated in the Normandy Invasion at Omaha Beach on D-Day. He was, along with so many others, a brave member of "The Greatest Generation". His unit was transferred to the Philippines to prepare for the invasion of Japan when the war ended. Norman had a lifelong bond with his fellow Seabees. One of the greatest highlights in his later years was the surprise reunion brought to Norm by his fellow mates.

He was briefly employed at Royal Typewriter when he returned from duty, but his true calling was as a Clothing Buyer and Sales Executive. He worked for one of Hartford's most prestigious clothing stores, Stackpole, Moore & Tryon Company for 40+ years selling Hickey Freeman suits where he met so many wonderful people. He always took great pride in dressing up and looking his finest.

Norman was a true gentleman, kind-hearted with a sly sense of humor and had a way of making everyone feel special. He enjoyed telling many wonderful stories from growing up in Hartford and of course many stories during his time in the Navy. He could recall many of his childhood memories - the 1936 Flood, seeing President Franklin D. Roosevelt at Bushnell Park campaigning and seeing Charles Lindbergh at Brainard Field.

Norman's greatest passions, aside from his family and his home, were taking vacations to Cape Cod, Bermuda, and the Connecticut shores. He loved the New York Yankees and all of the families "Puppies".

He was a very devoted son, husband, father, God-father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and loyal friend. He took such quiet pride in his children's and grandchildren's accomplishments and he relished the family gatherings. He was adored by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was predeceased by his beloved Genevieve "Jean" May Hutt. They were married at St. Mary's Church in Newington by the Rev. George Clark on October 18, 1947. They were married 53 years. He was also predeceased by his beloved son William E. Hutt of Farmington.

Norman leaves behind his loving and devoted daughter Frances Hutt Kaschak of West Hartford, his daughter-in-law Linda Cieri Hutt of Farmington. "Poppy" leaves behind his granddaughter Jennifer Kaschak Golini, her husband Evan Golini and his precious great-granddaughter Taylor Golini of Reading, MA, his grandson M. John Kaschak and his fiancee Christie Arcidiacono of Farmington and his grandson Colin E. Hutt of Farmington. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.

Norman's family would like to thank Jefferson House in Newington for their outstanding care, compassion and love they provided for Norman and his family.

Family and friends may call Thursday from 9:00am - 10:30am at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Avenue, Newington, followed by an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church, 626 Willard Ave, Newington. He will be laid to rest with his wife in West Meadow Cemetery, Newington with military honors.
