Newington Obituary: Roman Dobrocki, 89

Condolences to his family and friends.

Roman Jan Dobrocki, born January 30, 1927 in Trzemeszno, Poland, passed away after a short illness on Wednesday, November 2, 2016.

As a youth living in Poland during WWII, he was put into forced labor for 6 years on German farms by the Nazis. Roman was rescued by the British Army at the end of the war and worked for them until 1956 at which time he, his beloved, predeceased wife, Edeltraut, and two young children emigrated to the United States. He immediately began work at Atlantic Tools which eventually became Atlantic Aerospace in Newington and rose to the position of foreman for the honing department.

In 1964 the family moved to a new house in Newington with the down payment paid in cash. Roman enjoyed fishing, creating super 8 mm movie footage of family activities, cooking, music, travel and remodeling his home during his retirement years, creating a huge movie library, and learning about computer technology.

He leaves behind his daughter, Barbara and son-in-law, Ray LaPointe of Mansfield, son, Arthur of Rocky Hill, granddaughter, Kristina of Florida, his sister, Aldona and brother-in-law, Bogdan in Poland, his brother, Zenon in Poland, and many beloved nieces and nephews in Poland, Spain, and Germany.

His life and funeral will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 8, at 8:30 AM from Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Burritt Hill, 332 Burritt St, New Britain, with a 9:30 AM Liturgy of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church. Rites of Committal will follow the Mass at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Relatives and friends are welcome to gather for visitation on Monday from 3:00 until 6:00 PM at Burritt Hill.
