Newington Obituary: Rosse Planas, 89

Rosse Mary (Gago Ferreiro) Planas, 89, of Newington, passed away on Friday, January 12, 2018. She was the beloved wife of Joseph M. Planas for 57 years.

Born in Camaguey, Cuba, daughter of Sebastian Gago and Perfecta Ferreiro Yanez, she was a Newington resident since 1973 and a member of the Holy Spirit Church. Rosse Mary's father had a music school in Cuba where she began her lifelong study of piano. She went on to become a concert pianist and was director of the Conservatorio de Musica Rafols (Rafols Music Conservatory), Camaguey, Cuba where she taught piano and was a professor at the Instituto de Camaguey. She was employed by Aetna for 19 years prior to her retirement.

Along with her husband, a loving mother and grandmother, she leaves her son Felix Planas, her daughter Rossemary (Planas) Verfurth and her husband Charles, and her grandchildren, Lauren Planas and Dana, Brandon, and Erika and Jamie Verfurth. She also leaves her siblings, Lola (Gago Ferreiro) Llanes and Joselyne Gago, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Beverly Planas, her brothers, Luis Gago Ferreiro, Jose "Pepe" Gago Ferreiro, and Sebastian Gago Ferreiro.

Rosse Mary's family would like to thank the staff at Bel Air Manor in Newington for their care and compassion.

Her funeral service will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 16th, at 9:00 a.m. at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Spirit Church, Newington. Burial will be private. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday, Jan. 15th, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Newington Memorial.
