S. Marie Christel was an accomplished artist, water color, her preferred medium. She loved being a Sister of Mercy. Though her spirituality was simple and direct, in her painting and poetry, she saw beyond the human eye. Her love of people was abundantly expressed with an artist's touch in all of her ministries with her people- the children of God.

She was predeceased by her brother John, and is survived by her sister-in-law Marcia Scholl; her brother and sister-in-law James and Cindy Scholl; several nieces, nephews, grandnephews, and grandnieces; and her community of the Sisters of Mercy, especially Sister M. Christel Nolan, her best friend and travel companion.
