Newington Obituary: Thomas Buccino, 90

Condolences to his family and friends.

Thomas Buccino, of Newington, beloved husband of Lucy (Cicoria) Buccino, passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at Hartford Hospital.

Tom is predeceased by his father Salvatore Buccino; his mother Marianna (Petruzziello) Buccino and his first wife Helen (Stapakis) Buccino.

Born in Hartford, he spent his early years growing up on Russell St. with his cousins from the Buccino and Demma families, a time he truly cherished. Tom graduated from Hartford Public High School in 1945 and went on to the Hartt School of Music with a concentration in piano studies.

He worked briefly as a barber with his father before beginning his 35-year career with the CT State Labor Dept. where he retired as Asst. Chief of Data Processing in 1986. Tom was also a fine musician and composer, playing semi-professionally in a number of local bands before starting his own group called "Tommy B". His musical mentor and idol since the age of 16 was Carmen Cavallaro, "The Poet of the Piano". He was an active member of the Hartford Elks for nearly two decades.

In addition to his wife, Tom is survived by his godson, Thomas D. Buccino, Jr. and cousins, Angelo, Anthony, and Roy Demma.

Funeral service will be Saturday (September 9) at 9 a.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 505 Willard Ave., Newington. Burial will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Calling hours will be Friday (September 8) from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
