Newington Obituary: William Gauthier, 81

Condolences to his family and friends.

William E. Gauthier, 81, of Newington, passed away on July 12, 2016 at the Jefferson House in Newington.

Born April 4, 1935 in Waterbury he was the son of the late Edgar and Irene (Dube) Gauthier. Bill was a Boy Scout for 20 years. He was a communicant of St. Anne’s Church in Waterbury until moving to Newington. He lived at the Market Square Apartments for 30 years where he served as the treasurer on the resident’s council. For the last 5 years he has been residing at the Jefferson House, where he received the most excellent and loving care.

Bill loved music. He enjoyed playing his accordion and entertaining with a group called SENSE, Inc. at various nursing homes and senior centers. He was especially proud of his sister when she came to play the fiddle with a group of friends at the Jefferson House. He made 50 pilgrimages with the Ahearn Memorial Group to the Ste. Anne deBeaupre Shrine in Quebec, Canada. He loved to bowl, play bingo and participate at rosary gatherings.

He is survived by his sister Germaine Pelletier and husband James of Wolcott; 2 brothers, Robert Gauthier Sr. and wife Suzanne of Berlin and Normand Gauthier and wife Joyce of Somerset, MA. His nephew Jim and nieces, Bonnie and Danielle were the love of his life.

A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 9 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 626 Willard Ave., Newington. There are no calling hours. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jefferson House Recreation Fund, 1 John H. Steward Dr., Newington, CT 06111.

The DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 690 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott is assisting the family with the arrangements.
