Newington Officer Dies While Off Duty
The Newington Police Department Monday said the officer died after an 'unexpected medical emergency.'

NEWINGTON, CT — The Town of Newington's police department is mourning the sudden, tragic loss of one of their own over the weekend.
The Newington Police Department Monday announced the passing of Officer Alan Tancreti, who died after an "unexpected medical emergency" on Saturday, Oct. 1.
"Today, the members of the Newington Police Department carry the burden of a heavy heart as we share with you the tragic passing of Officer Alan Tancreti," wrote Newington Police Sgt. Ryan Deane in a statement Monday.

Police said Tancreti suffered an unexpected medical emergency while he was off duty at his home.
"Despite the valiant efforts of first responders and medical staff, Officer Tancreti passed away. Words can not express the tremendous loss our family feels after losing Alan," wrote Deane.

“'Tank,' as he was affectionately known throughout the department, was ambitious, caring, supportive and a great complement to an amazing group of professionals. Alan, above all else, was a dedicated father to his three children."
Deane and the rest of the department thanked the community and the department's law enforcement partners for the outpouring of support.
He said they "ask that you pray for the Tancreti family as well as our Newington Police family during this extremely difficult time."
