Newington Rallies Past South Windsor in Volleyball Finals
The Indians claimed their fourth Class M championship by coming back from a 2-0 deficit.

PLAINVILLE, CT — On the brink of elimination against the defending state champions, Newington rallied to win three straight games and capture the Class M boys volleyball title with a 3-2 win over South Windsor Thursday at Plainville High School.
South Windsor, the number seven seed, took the first two games, 26-24 and 25-20, before the Indians began a furious comeback. Fourth-seeded Newington evened the match with 25-18 and 25-15 wins, then the fifth game went beyond regulation play, with the Indians prevailing, 16-14.
Andres Ithier-Vicenty paced the winners with 25 kills, Vinh Dau had 12 and Zach Harmon added 10. Evan Metzger notched 55 assists, Kevin Bilbraut had 31 digs and Nathaniel Alleyne registered four blocks.

South Windsor was led by Brandon Baker (25 kills, 20 digs) and Braden Goodale (37 assists).
The championship is Newington's fourth in six years, and third in the past four.

Newington finished with a 17-8 record, while South Windsor wound up 13-9.
