Newington Road Closed Due to House Fire

NEWINGTON, CT — Local police are urging motorists this afternoon to avoid Old Farm Drive due to a reported structure fire.

The Newington Police Department issued an alert at about 3:40 p.m. regarding the situation.

According to the alert, the blaze is at 147 Old Farm Drive in Newington, a residential home.

"Due to a structure fire in the area, Old Farm Drive is currently closed to any traffic," police said in the notice. " Please use an alternative route."

The BreakingNowCT Twitter feed Thursday afternoon reported "heavy fire" in a garage and it posted photos of a severely damaged, ranch-style house with a connected garage.

The Newington Volunteer Fire Department reported via Facebook at about 3:10 p.m. that the bulk of the fire, mostly on the exterior of the structure, had been knocked down with crews checking to see if the blaze spread.

Like the police, firefighters also asked motorists to avoid that area.
