Newington Zoning Commission To Hear Maple Hill Lot, Culver Street Sign Applications

NEWINGTON, CT — The Newington Town Plan and Zoning Commission will hold public hearings Wednesday, Sept. 9, on a proposed interior lot on Maple Hill Avenue and a freestanding sign at a Culver Street apartment property.

The commission is also scheduled to discuss residents' concerns about a proposed Newington Housing Authority development on Mill Street as part of the town planner's report.

Maple Hill Avenue Interior Lot Goes To Public Hearing

Joseph Brescia is seeking a special permit for an interior lot with frontage on Maple Hill Avenue and abutting Locust Drive.

The property, currently known as 227 Maple Hill Ave., is split between Newington's R-12 Residential Zone and Industrial Zone.

Brescia is listed as both the applicant and property owner, with Alan Bongiovanni identified as the contact for the application. The request seeks approval under Sections 6.7 and 3.4.9 of the zoning regulations.

After the public hearing, the application is also listed under new business, allowing the commission to consider possible action.

Culver Street Apartments Seeks Sign Permit

The commission will also hold a public hearing on an application for a freestanding sign at 69 Culver St..

Pamela Brealey is seeking a special permit under Section 6.2.5 of the zoning regulations. Culver Street Apartments LLC owns the property, which is in the Planned Development Zone.

Like the Maple Hill Avenue application, the sign proposal appears under new business following the public hearing and could be considered by commissioners that night.

Mill Street Housing Concerns On Agenda

The commission is also scheduled to receive an update from the town planner that includes "Citizen Concerns About NHA Proposed Mill St Development."

Commissioners will also receive an August report from the zoning enforcement officer, a town planner update and information on current land-use applications. They are scheduled to consider minutes from the commission's Aug. 26 meeting.

The Sept. 9 meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Town Council Chamber at Newington Town Hall, 200 Garfield St. The meeting will also be available as a Zoom webinar. Information on how to attend will be posted on the town website.
