North-Central Connecticut Teams Extend Streaks of State Track & Field Titles

Records were broken and winning streaks were extended as the first two high school track and field championships were contested Tuesday.

In the Class L meet at Middletown High School, the girls' team from Windsor breezed to victory, compiling 113 points to 61 for runnerup Wilbur Cross. The win was the seventh straight for the Warriors (Class L, 2010-13 and 2016; Class MM, 2014-15).

Windsor athletes broke two Class L meet records during the event. Jiana Baker dusted the field in the 100 meter dash, finishing in 11.76 seconds to break the record held since 2004 by Shanea Calhoun of Wilbur Cross. The Warriors' 4x100 relay team cruised to victory in 47.88 seconds, breaking the previous mark of 47.96 set by Windsor in 2010.

At Willow Brook Park in New Britain, Tolland extended its streak of Class M girls championships to five, earning 106 points to 74 for Weston.

Wethersfield dominated the boys' Class L meet with 141 points, more than doubling runnerup Manchester's 69. Northwest Catholic of West Hartford won the Class M boys' title with 87 points, well ahead of Seymour's 65.50.
