Parks And Rec: How 'CAN' I Help Newington Program Begins

The department is still looking for more non-profit groups to sign up to be the recipient of the donations from the recycle shed.

Press release from Newington Parks and Recreation:

Dec. 12, 2020

Hey Newington! The How “Can” I Help Newington program has been tremendously successful in the first month, and it doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. The Parks and Recreation department is still looking for more non-profit groups to sign up to be the recipient of the donations from our recycle shed. The shed has been up for less than a month at Churchill Park, and we are already emptying it on a weekly basis. Bill DeMaio, Superintendent of Newington Parks and Recreation, happily stated, “This program is unbelievable! We would have never guessed our Newington residents would have come to the aid of non-profit organizations so quickly. It reminds me of the movie Jerry Maguire when Rod says, “Show me the money, Jerry”! The response has been terrific”!

The amount of donations from our Newington residents have already greatly exceeded expectations in the best way possible, and we want these tremendous non-profit organizations to feel the love. We would like to give your organization a specific month in which your group may benefit from the profits of the donated cans and bottles. It’s easy and simple. All you have to do is bring the bags of donations to a local return center and they will pay you based on the weight of the bags. No sorting necessary! If you are in a local non-profit group and are interested in receiving donations, all you have to do is call the Parks and Recreation office at 860-665-8666 for more details. Remember, with Newington Parks and Recreation, we are building a strong community.
