Pedestrian Injured When Struck by Car in Newington

A man has been charged with operating under the influence in connection with the case.

NEWINGTON, CT — A Central Connecticut State University student was injured Saturday night after being struck by a car in Newington.

The incident took place around 7:17 p.m., when Newington police officers were dispatched to the area of Fenn Road and Myra Cohen Way for a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle.

Upon arrival, officers observed an unconscious male on the ground. Officers on scene tended to the victim while additional officers gathered information from witnesses.

After the initial investigation, the operator of the motor vehicle, Sergiy Svystun, 29, of Middletown, was placed under arrest for operating under the influence. Additional charges may be pending, according to police.

The victim, a 21-year-old Unionville resident, was transported to an area hospital and was last reported to be in stable condition, police said.
