Wethersfield Woman, 27, Dies After Being Hit In Newington: UPDATE

Newington police Friday morning released the identity of the woman struck and killed by a vehicle on the Berlin Turnpike.

NEWINGTON, CT —Local police Friday morning said a 27-year-old Wethersfield woman struck by a vehicle on the Berlin Turnpike Thursday evening has now died.

The Newington Police Department, in a release sent out at 9:18 a.m. Friday, identified the woman as being Katelyn Burke of Wethersfield.

According to the NPD, at about 6:15 p.m., officers were called to the Berlin Turnpike southbound near Wren Kitchen for reports of a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian.

Police said the pedestrian was transported by ambulance to a local hospital to be treated for what appeared to be serious physical injuries.

The operator of the vehicle remained on the scene and was identified, the NPD said.

Police said Burke was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

According to the department, the southbound lanes of the Berlin Turnpike between Kitts Lane and Main Street were closed while the Mid-State Accident Reconstruction Squad investigated.
