Known for its full-service dining experience and Mexican cuisine, the restaurant has been a fixture in the local dining scene since opening in Newington.

In their announcement, the owners thanked customers for their support over the past decade and a half.

“After 15 wonderful years of serving our community, Plaza Azteca will be closing its doors for the end of an era,” the restaurant wrote. “We are deeply grateful for the loyalty, support, and friendships that have made these years so memorable.”

The owners said they plan to pursue new restaurant ventures following the closure.

“As we close this chapter, we are excited to continue our journey and explore new restaurant concepts in the future,” the statement said.

In the meantime, customers are being directed to the owners’ sister restaurant, MexiPHO in Glastonbury.

The owners said they look forward to serving former Plaza Azteca patrons there “with the same hospitality and commitment to great food.”

The announcement did not provide a reason for the closure.

“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for 15 incredible years,” the restaurant wrote. “We hope to see you again soon.”
