Robber Who Held Up Newington Bank Being Sought

The man claimed to have a gun, though no weapon was brandished during the robbery, police said.

NEWINGTON, CT — Police are seeking a man who robbed a bank branch inside a Newington supermarket Wednesday afternoon.

Around 12:53 p.m., a white male wearing a dark colored T-shirt, black shorts, black sunglasses and a light colored baseball cap entered the Stop & Shop supermarket at 44 Fenn Road, approached a teller at the Peoples Bank location and advised the teller he was robbing her, police said.

The suspect presented the teller a note explaining he had a “gun” and demanded she empty her drawer. The teller provided the suspect with an undisclosed amount of money, police said.

No weapon was shown during the commission of the robbery. The suspect left the scene in a gray, newer model Chrysler Town and Country mini-van, which had no registration plates affixed to it, according to police.
