Scooter-Riding Teens Charged In Newington After Crash, Carjack Attempt
The Newington PD is investigating an accident involving juvenile suspects, with New Britain police probing a carjacking attempt there.
NEWINGTON, CT — Two scooter-riding teens were taken into custody and charged in connection with an attempted car-jacking in New Britain and a prior, crash, in Newington.
The Newington Police Department did not identify the juvenile suspects due to their age.
One juvenile male was charged with interfering with a police officer; engaging police in pursuit; and operating a motor vehicle without a license.

According to police, the situation started on Sunday at about 5:21 p.m. when NPD officers were called to the area of Carr Avenue and John Street to tend to a reported motor vehicle crash.
Police said an unoccupied, stolen vehicle was pushed by unidentified juveniles through a fence and into a commercial building.
The juveniles then fled the area on foot prior to the arrival of Newington officers, police said.
During the initial investigation into this incident, a Newington officer was flagged down by someone who stated two juveniles on a scooter just attempted to carjack him, according to the NPD.
The carjacking attempt was determined to have occurred in the City of New Britain, Newington police said.
Police said there was no report of any weapons.
The NPD said the victim pointed to the juveniles on the scooter who were still visible in the area.
As a result, police said, Newington officers were able to locate the two juvenile suspects, who were taken into custody.
The initial motor vehicle accident remains under investigation. The carjacking incident is being investigated by the New Britain Police Department.
