Sen. Lesser, Rep. Turco Welcome State Bonding To Newington

Funds will be allocated to finance the New Britain Avenue Business District Streetscape improvement project.

State Senator Matt Lesser (D-Newington) and Representative Gary Turco (D-Newington) are welcoming $500,000 in state bonding to Newington. These funds will be allocated to finance the New Britain Avenue Business District Streetscape improvement project. The economic funding will help revitalize the area and improve business with a variety of projects.

“This money is a great way to support small businesses in Newington,” said Sen. Lesser. “The money being allocated will help grow Newington’s economy at such a critical time.

I am proud to work with Representative Turco and the Newington delegation to help increase the appearance and make improvements to help small businesses thrive. I am grateful for the support of Governor Lamont in helping us grow Newington’s economy.”

“Thank you to Governor Lamont and the State Bond Commission for awarding this funding to Newington despite the challenges facing us in the future,” said Rep. Turco. “Investing in our communities is a critical step in helping municipalities and our state recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. It will also build a more resilient economy and create additional opportunities for economic growth.”

Within this improvement project, funding would be distributed to paving new sidewalks, resetting of existing granite curbs, landscaping, street trees, decorative street lighting, reduction of existing drainage issues, consolidation of curb cuts where appropriate, and combination of parking lots where appropriate. All would be designed to benefit local merchants and property owners.
