Suspect Sought in Newington Armed Robbery

The man brandished a handgun while robbing a gas station of an undisclosed amount of cash, according to police.

NEWINGTON, CT — Police are seeking help in identifying a suspect who committed an armed robbery at a Berlin Turnpike gas station Wednesday night.

Around 9:45 p.m., police responded to the Sunoco gas station at 3191 Berlin Turnpike for a report of a robbery in progress. A witness at the gas pumps observed a white or Latino male in his 30s with an average build wearing a gray hat, a gray hooded sweatshirt over a long white t-shirt and dark pants, physically grab the clerk from over the counter, police said.

The witness watched the man exit the store and run south across Richard Street towards the 7-Eleven convenience store, where she believed he got into a small dark-colored sedan, police said.

The gas station clerk told police the man grabbed and threatened him and then demanded money. The suspect fled the store with an undetermined amount of money, police said.

Store surveillance images show the man was armed with a long barrel revolver-type handgun. Responding units were unable to locate the suspect, police said.
