Trooper, K-9 Rescued After Tree Falls On Car In Newington

The incident happened overnight amid a round of thunderstorms.

NEWINGTON, CT — A frightening ordeal for a state trooper and his canine partner ended well as Newington responders were able to free both from a cruiser hit by a tree overnight.

According to the Newington Volunteer Fire Department, the incident happened overnight on the CT Fast Trak lane in town, the state Department of Transportation's rapid transit bus route.

In a social media post late Thursday night, the NVFD said a tree fell across that roadway in town and struck a state trooper's patrol vehicle.

The NVFD said no injuries were reported in the incident and the tree and cruiser were, eventually, removed from the scene, though bus delays were expected.

According to WFSB Channel 3, the tree did damage the vehicle sufficiently to require responders to pry open the door to get the occupants out.

The off-duty trooper was with a police K-9 dog and the tree fell amid another round of thunderstorms during a particularly stormy Thursday, according to WVIT Channel 30.
