Turco Unanimously Endorsed By Newington Democratic Party

Press release from the Turco for Newington campaign: On Wednesday, May 20, State Representative Gary Turco (D-Newington) was unanimously endorsed by the Newington Democratic Party to run for for re-election to represent the 27th District in Connecticut’s House of Representatives.

“I accept your nomination and thank you for your vote of confidence in endorsing me to run for re-election as Newington’s 27th District State Representative,” Turco said. “I'm running for re-election because our community needs to continue having leadership that delivers for Newington. Together, we can build on the work we’ve done to create greater economic opportunities, reduce the cost of living, and improve the quality of life for all residents.”

In her speech nominating Turco, former State Representative Sandy Nafis emphasized that Turco has her support because his record of strong leadership will be essential in ensuring that Newington’s future remains bright. “These last few months have changed our lives in ways most would not have ever imagined, and the decisions facing our state will be difficult as we continue through the current COVID-19 crisis and the recovery process.” Nafis said. “Now more than ever, we must have strong, experienced leadership representing Newington. Gary Turco has proven he is up to this task.”

In speeches seconding Turco’s nomination, public health employee Sharon Dunning, local business owner Fred Callahan, and Newington’s State Senator Matt Lesser echoed similar confidence in Turco’s leadership.

Dunning voiced her support for Turco’s re-election because he has shown that he “will keep us informed, work hard to ensure that we are all safe, and…fight to ensure that we have the resources needed for our community at large.”

“In the past two years, Gary has supported Newington residents in a tireless fashion,” Callahan said. “Gary has been extremely transparent with Newington residents and has always been there to listen to them and their needs.”

“To see [Turco] at work on behalf of the people of Newington has been extraordinary,” Lesser said. “Whenever I want to know what’s going on in Newington, the first person I call is Gary Turco.”

Newington Democratic Party Chair John Kelly expressed his enthusiasm for Turco’s candidacy.

"Gary Turco has done a wonderful job representing Newington at the State Capitol,” Kelly said, citing Turco’s work to bring additional state funding to Newington, protect and expand healthcare coverage, and preserve land on Cedar Mountain. “Now more than ever, Newington needs Gary Turco to keep fighting for all of us every day.”
