NEW LONDON, CT — A speakeasy bar and restaurant is planned for a downtown New London spot.
The Marquee on State Street is charting an opening at 312 State St., according to documents filed with the city. Applicant Sean Leffert is seeking a special permit modification to allow live acoustic music.
The special permit request specifies that entertainment would include live jazz and other music, karaoke, comedians, and a DJ. All entertainment would be indoors and occur Wednesday through Sunday, typically from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. with the possibility of a Sunday brunch.
"We are hoping to increase the popularity and promote the Arts & Theater in this area of New London," Leffert wrote in a letter accompanying the application.
The spot is the former home of DEVS/Nico's, The Connecticut Scoop reported.
The Marquee would include seating for 45 people with a small stage and a speakeasy with seating for another 20.
The project was originally on the agenda for a May 7 Planning & Zoning Commission meeting but has been bumped to May 21.
