NEW LONDON, CT — Nighttime lane closures are scheduled on a stretch of Route 1 in New London and Waterford as the Connecticut Department of Transportation begins a road resurfacing project later this month.

Police are advising motorists to expect traffic impacts during the project, which will mill and resurface a 1.55-mile section of Route 1 between Route 156 (Rope Ferry Road) in Waterford and Service Route 641 (Jefferson Avenue) in New London.

According to police, work is scheduled to begin the evening of June 24 and continue through the morning of July 30.

The milling phase is scheduled from the evening of June 24 through the morning of July 2. Resurfacing work is planned from the evening of July 19 through the morning of July 30.

Drivers should expect lane closures along the project corridor from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday evenings through Friday mornings.

Traffic control personnel and posted signs will be used to guide drivers through the work zone.

Police noted that the schedule could change because of weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

Drivers are urged to slow down, stay alert, and follow all posted signs and directions from traffic control personnel while traveling through the area.
