NEW LONDON, CT — Police are cracking down on illegal dirt bikes and ATVs on the streets of New London — and they're asking the community to help hold illegal riders accountable.
"The illegal operation of dirt bikes and ATVs on New London streets is extremely dangerous and is a growing concern for our entire community," police wrote on Facebook. "These reckless riders put themselves, our residents, pedestrians, and motorists at serious risk every time they take to our roadways."
Police said the public can help by taking photos of illegal bikes and storage locations, then emailing those photos to police at publicportal@newlondonct.gov.
Police emphasized that residents should only take photos "if it is completely safe and poses NO risk to you. Never confront riders or put yourself in harm's way."
Police said they are looking to identify riders as well as where dirt bikes and ATVs are being stored.
"Every tip — no matter how small — may help us shut down this dangerous activity," police wrote.
