The New London Police Department is deeply saddened by the passing of retired Policewoman Loretta Brown, a trailblazer whose legacy of service continues to inspire our department and community.

Loretta Brown was sworn in as a New London Policewoman on April 10, 1973, and served with distinction and compassion until her retirement on November 1, 1993. Throughout her 20-year career, she proudly held the designation of "Policewoman" — a title she wore with honor as she dedicated herself to protecting and supporting the most vulnerable members of our community, with a particular focus on women and children.

As one of the early female officers in New London, Loretta helped pave the way for the generations of women who now proudly serve in local law enforcement. Her courage, dedication, and unwavering commitment to those in need broke barriers and set a standard of service that endures today.

Her devotion to our community did not end with her retirement. Loretta continued to make a difference in the lives of local youth through her work in our school systems, mentoring and supporting children long after she hung up her badge.

On behalf of the entire New London Police Department, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Loretta's family, friends, and all who were touched by her lifetime of service.

Gone but not forgotten. Rest in peace, Policewoman Brown.
