Community Mourns Loss Of Accomplished Doctor, Wife In New London Fire

A retired doctor and his wife served the community for many decades at a local hospital.

NEW LONDON, CT — The community is mourning the loss of a New London couple who died in a fire last week.

Daniel E. Moalli, 90, and his wife, Glenna M. Moalli, 77, died in the blaze.

The fire broke out at a Chapel Drive home late at night July 20.

Daniel Moalli was a retired neurologist who spent decades serving the community, according to the couple's obituary.

He earned his medical degree from the Boston University School of Medicine. He had a long affiliation with Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London.

In 1966, he became the first practicing neurologist in Eastern Connecticut. He pioneered the hospital's EEG program and neuro-diagnostic center, according to the obituary.

Glenna Moalli also worked at the hospital, spending many years in the Infectious Diseases Department.

"Her colleagues remember her not only for her lasting contributions to the hospital family but also for her kind spirit and dedication to helping others," the obituary reads.
