New London Police Issue Warning About Vehicle Thefts

The department is giving away free Pedal Lock security devices to eligible residents while supplies last.

NEW LONDON, CT — The New London Police Department is issuing a warning to residents to be vigilant to thwart vehicle thefts.

"We're seeing a rise in preventable vehicle break-ins and thefts across our community — and the good news is, most of them can be stopped with a few simple habits," police officials wrote on Facebook. "Criminals look for easy targets. Let's make sure your vehicle isn't one of them."

To help with securing vehicles, the department is giving away free Pedal Lock devices ("The Club") to residents while supplies last. Limit of one per household.

In order to obtain one of the devices, a person must have a valid Connecticut driver's license with a New London address, and proof of a valid New London-registered vehicle.

"Pedal locks provide an extra physical barrier and a visible deterrent that makes thieves think twice — and move on," police said.

The department offered the following tips to help avoid vehicle thefts:

"If you see suspicious activity, call the New London Police Department immediately," officials said. "Together We Can Prevent Auto Theft."
