NEW LONDON, CT — Plans for a major residential development on Howard and Hamilton streets are scheduled to return before the New London Planning and Zoning Commission this week.
The commission will hold public hearings Thursday on two related applications from SREP NL Holding LLC that together propose 235 apartments, according to the meeting agenda.
One application calls for 95 apartments at 150 Howard St., along with stormwater improvements, lighting, landscaping, recreational space and parking. The developer is also seeking permission to build more than one structure on the property, exceed the maximum building height allowed in its specific zoning district and provide some required parking off-site.
The second application proposes another 140 apartments on properties at 65 and 77 Hamilton St. and 152 and 162 Howard St. Those properties have four different owners, according to the agenda.
Plans for that portion of the development include a parking structure that would serve both the 140-unit project and the neighboring 95-unit development at 150 Howard St. The developer is also seeking approval to exceed the area's maximum permitted building height.
The proposals require special permits as well as coastal site plan and site development plan approvals.
The project represents a revised version of development plans previously proposed for the area. The developer changed the project to continue allowing access to a neighboring restaurant.
The Planning and Zoning Commission meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, in the City Council Chambers on the third floor of City Hall, 181 State St.
