Fire Causes Significant Damage To Home, Leaves 1 Injured In New London

Crews responded to the call Thursday night.

NEW LONDON, CT — A resident was injured and a home sustained significant damage in a fire in New London on Thursday night, according to fire officials.

Firefighters responded to a single-alarm fire at 24 Mahan St. at about 9:35 p.m.

Crews arrived minutes later and found the blaze was on the second floor of a single-family home.

The fire extended to the hallway. Crews were able to contain the blaze to that area.

The home sustained significant heat and smoke damage throughout the second floor. Moderate smoke damage extended to the first floor.

Crews from Waterford, the Naval Submarine Base and Groton EMS also responded to the fire.

Two people were at home at the time of the fire. One resident was taken to the hospital due to minor smoke-related injuries, according to fire officials.

No firefighters were injured.

The American Red Cross is assisting the two displaced residents with emergency housing and other needs.

The New London Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the blaze.
