Arrest Made In December Chelsea Groton Bank Robbery

Luis Galan, 38, of 'no certain address' was arrested on robbery, burglary and other charges and is being held in lieu of $100,000 bond.

NEW LONDON, CT — A 38-year-old man was arrested, charged by police with the Dec. 19 robbery of the Chelsea Groton Bank.

Luis Galan, who has no certain address, police said, was charged with second-degree robbery in the daytime theft at the Montauk Avenue bank branch. At the time police said the suspect was armed, though did not display a weapon though claimed to have one. He was then described as white and/or Hispanic male, stocky build, with 'salt & pepper' facial hair, wearing a dark colored hooded sweat shirt and pants. Police said he showed the teller a note and fled with around $650.

Police said they'd gotten a warrant for Galan and on New Year's Eve arrested him. He was held on a $75,000 cash-surety court set bond on the bank robbery case.

But, he also faces third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal attempt/burglary, and first-degree criminal trespass "for an incident that occurred at a Montauk Avenue residence just prior to his warrant arrest." Police didn't elaborate on the specifics of the "incident.'

On those charges, Galan is being held on an additional $25,000 cash-surety bond.
