2018 Greater New Milford Film Festival Kicks Off

The festival runs through October 7.

NEW MILFORD, CT — The 2018 Greater New Milford Film Festival will start spooling out Friday and run through Oct. 7.

Fri., Sept. 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Bank Street Theater: "Mantra: Sounds Into Silence" | A full-length documentary exploring the musical and social phenomenon of chanting. A Q&A with Miriam Zernis will follow screening.

Sat., Sept. 29 at 7:30 p.m. at the Bank Street Theater: "Long Lost" | Synopsis: When Seth receives a mysterious letter inviting him to spend the weekend at a secluded mansion in the country he soon realizes the people inside may know him better than he knows himself. A Q&A with creator Erik Bloomquist will follow the screening.

Sun., Sept. 30 at 12:00 p.m. at the Bank Street Theater: "Home of the Brave" | The true story of how Southbury, CT, stopped the Nazi regime from setting up in town in 1937. Directed by Scott Sniffen. A Q&A with Melinda Elliot, Vice President of the Southbury Historical Society, will follow the film.

Tue., Oct. 2 at 6:00 p.m. at the New Milford Public Library: "Gotti" (Free Admission) | Synopsis: The 2018 film starring John Travolta reveals the relationship of a father who lived and died by the mob code and a son who chose to leave that world behind and redeem himself and the Gotti name.

Wed., Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. at The Makery: Lichfield Hills Screenwriter's Workshop | Page readings and critiques from current members’ scripts followed by a Q&A with local filmmaker Britanny Nisco. Light refreshments will be served. Proceeds will benefit the Greater New Milford Film Festival Scholarship Fund.

Thu., Oct. 4, at 7:00 p.m. at the Bank Street Theater: 2018 Manhattan Short Film Festival | The audience will be the judge of nine short films from eight countries. Winners will be announced on Mon., Oct. 8 at 10:00 a.m. at ManhattanShort.com. Proceeds will benefit the Greater New Milford Film Festival Scholarship Fund.

Fri., Oct. 5 at at 7:30 p.m. at The Makery: Fanatic Heart: The Story So Far of Black 47 | Synopsis: Passion, poetry, and politics fuel this documentary about Black 47, the fabled House Band of New York City. Q&A with band member Joe Burcaw will follow the screening.

Sat., Oct. 6 at 12:00 p.m. at the Bank Street Theater: Greater New Milford Shorts | A collection of short films created by greater New Milford area residents. Most of the filmmakers will be on hand to answer questions following each short film. Attendees will be able to vote for their favorite film.

Sun., Oct. 7 at 12:00 p.m. at the Bank Street Theater: 2018 Manhattan Short Film Festival | An encore screening of the 2018 Manhattan Short Film Festival. Ticketholders are invited to a closing reception at Lucia following the screening.
