NEW MILFORD, CT — A motorist involved in a highway crash in the Hudson Valley which killed a local man has been arrested.
Michael T. Keller, 65, of New Milford, died in the crash on Jan. 26, 2025.
New York State Police said they arrested the other driver, Makayla McIntyre of Mount Vernon, New York, on Monday.
McIntyre is charged with second-degree manslaughter, second-degree assault, criminally negligent homicide, second-degree reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and additional traffic violations.
McIntyre was arraigned Monday in Putnam County Supreme Court and released on her own recognizance. Her next court date is Sept. 29.
The charges stem from a two-car crash on Jan. 26, 2025 around 7:15 a.m. on I-684 in Southeast, New York, which is near the Connecticut border.
Police said McIntyre was traveling northbound on I-684 when she lost control of her vehicle, struck a guiderail, veered across all lanes of travel, and hit another vehicle operated by Keller.
Both vehicles then left the roadway, struck the middle median, overturned and came to a rest in the center embankment of the highway, police said.
McIntyre was transported to Danbury Hospital with minor injuries, while Keller died at the scene.
