NEW MILFORD, CT — New Milford keeps its weekend compact but sharp this time around: a Broadway-caliber whodunit where the audience picks the ending, a beloved Bank Street cinema switching its lights back on, and a gallery night built entirely around kids' summer-camp artwork. It is a smaller lineup than some weeks, but each stop is worth the drive.
- "The Mystery of Edwin Drood" — Thursday, Sept. 24, Friday, Sept. 25 and Saturday, Sept. 26 at 8 p.m., with a Sunday, Sept. 27 matinee at 2 p.m. This five-time Tony winner, adapted from Charles Dickens' unfinished final novel, hands the audience the job of voting on whodunit at every performance, so no two nights end the same way. Venue: TheatreWorks New Milford, 20 Elm Street.
- Bank Street Theater reopens — Friday, Sept. 25. New Milford's century-old neighborhood movie house switches its marquee back on after a short closure. The current lineup was not yet posted at the time of writing, so check the theater's own site before heading out. Venue: Bank Street Theater, 46 Bank Street.
- Summer Camp Gallery Show at The Silo — Saturday, Sept. 26, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. (opening reception), continuing Sunday, Sept. 27, noon to 4 p.m. This rescheduled show fills the landmark red silo gallery with artwork made by local kids during summer arts camp, a low-key, family-friendly way to close out the weekend. Venue: The Silo at Hunt Hill Farm, 44 Upland Road.
It is a lighter week on paper than some, but between Dickens on stage, kids' art on the silo walls and a downtown movie house waking back up, New Milford still has a full weekend on offer. Grab tickets to Drood early if you want a good seat, then make a night of Bank Street and the Silo on your way through town.
