NEW MILFORD, CT — New Milford police are warning residents to secure their vehicles following several reports of break-ins at locations throughout town.
Many of the vehicles involved had been left unlocked, and some had keys inside, according to a recent Facebook post from the New Milford Police Department.
Police urged residents to take precautions to prevent additional thefts, including removing keys from vehicles, locking doors and keeping valuables out of sight.
"Our patrol officers are out in the community, staying vigilant and working hard to keep New Milford safe," the department wrote. "We appreciate their efforts, but preventing crime is a team effort and a few simple steps can make a big difference!"
Police did not specify how many break-ins had been reported, where they occurred or whether any arrests had been made.
Residents are encouraged to lock their vehicles every time they park and avoid leaving personal belongings in plain sight.
