Cars Collide, End Up in Housatonic River: New Milford Police

There were no serious injuries in the collision along a narrow stretch of River Road.

NEW MILFORD, CT --- Speed was not a factor in an accident that saw two cars and their drivers end up in the Houasatonic River on Wednesday, a New Milford police report has indicated.

Police were notified approximately 9:30 pm last night by a passerby about the incident in which a 2016 Jeep Cherokee struck the front corner of a 2016 Lexus along a very narrow section of River Road. The driver of the Lexus, Craig Jordan, 31, had pulled over to the right of the southbound side of the road in an effort to let David Aylward, 32, coming northward, pass by in his Jeep. Both cars were forced into the river on either side when the Jeep struck.

Both men were able to exit their cars in the river and swim back to shore, where they were found by a passerby. Police say the men were suffering from hypothermia, but had sustained no serious injuries. They were taken to Danbury Hospital, treated and released.
