Great Brook Dairy Farmer George R. 'Jake' Sullivan, Jr., 95, of New Milford, Passed Away

NEW MILFORD, CT— George R. (Jake) Sullivan, Jr., age 95, of New Milford passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 in New Milford, CT. Born on August 6, 1920 in New Milford, CT, he was the son of the late George R. and Bertha (Fish) Sullivan. He was 95.

Jake was born and raised in New Milford, CT and was a dairy farmer on Great Brook Farm on Park Lane Road. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in New Milford since October, 1941 and served as Noble Grand from 1944-1945, and again from 1991-1992. He served as the Chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals for the town of New Milford from 1970-1976. A lifelong farmer, Jake served in numerous positions with agricultural boards including Chairman of the Litchfield County Dairy Committee, Chairman of the Litchfield County ASCS, member of the National ASCS, Secretary and Treasurer of the Litchfield County Dairy Herd Improvement Association, Treasurer of the Litchfield County Artificial Breeders Association, and member of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (formerly the National Farm Service Association.)

He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Beth. He is survived by their children, Sharon Racis and her husband Stanley of Dakota Dunes, SD, Gary Sullivan and his wife Linda of Enfield, CT, Rebecca (Becky) Carroll and her husband Peter of Darien, CT, and Cynthia (Cindy) Cass and her husband Richard of New Milford, CT. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Matthew, Jonathan, Nancy, Jake, Andrew, Zachary Sullivan and Stephen, James, and Laura Carroll, and one great grandchild, Sebastian Sullivan.
