Man Charged With Manslaughter In New Milford Overdose Death: Police

A man was charged with manslaughter in connection with a drug overdose in New Milford, police said. Authorities found him in New York City.

NEW MILFORD, CT — A man has been charged in connection with a drug overdose death, according to New Milford police.

Police responded Nov. 28, 2022, to a report of a suspected overdose death.

Following a lengthy investigation, police said they identified the person responsible for selling illegal drugs to the victim as Michael Garcia, 20, of Waterbury. A warrant was issued for his arrest charging him with second-degree manslaughter and sale of narcotics.

Police were initially unsuccessful in locating Garcia. Police worked with U.S. Marshals to track Garcia. Authorities found and arrested him in New York City on Feb. 20.

Garcia waived extradition following a court hearing Friday. New Milford detectives went to Rikers Island Correctional Facility for the extradition.

Garcia was taken into custody and brought back to Connecticut. He was held on $150,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Torrington Superior Court on Tuesday.
