NEW MILFORD, CT — Karen Halasi-Kun, born on December 27, 1949 in Charlotteville, Virginia to Stanley and Olga (Neduzy) Cherubin, died on May 21, 2016 after a three year battle with cancer.
Her father, a career military officer, traveled to numerous bases in the U.S. as well as to Germany. As a result her childhood was spent traveling and relocating around the country-Oklahoma, Colorado, Virginia, New York and Germany. She graduated from Marymount College in Arlington Virginia in 1969. While attending there, she met her future husband, Adam Halasi-Kun. They married on October 17, 1970. Shortly after marriage she attended the Philadelphia School of Office Training where she earned a degree in Paralegal studies.
As during her childhood years, she continued to move about with her husband. The couple lived in Pennsylvania, New York and in several cities in Connecticut. They settled in New Milford in 1978. Being community minded she took on several volunteer commitments-Inland Wetlands Commission, Weatinogue Heritage Trust, and Affordable Housing Committee. She also actively followed her professional career working for attorneys in Philadelphia, New York, Stamford, Newtown, Danbury, Brookfield and New Milford until her retirement. She was also very committed to physical well being-exercise, skiing, horseback riding, bicycling, running, golf and yoga were a part of her life.
