New Milford BOE Approves Surplus Distribution, Enrollment Study And School Administrator Hire
New Milford BOE approves year-end surplus plan, enrollment study, curriculum updates and assistant principal appointment.
NEW MILFORD, CT — The New Milford Board of Education unanimously approved a plan for distributing its fiscal year-end surplus, appointed a new assistant principal for Hill and Plain Elementary School, and approved an enrollment study during its June 16 meeting.
The board voted unanimously to distribute the district's 2025-26 year-end balance by returning $502,964.43 to the Town of New Milford under the Education Cost Sharing grant program, repaying $232,906 in previously set-aside grant funds to the town, contributing $50,000 toward turf field replacement, and depositing $50,000 into a new non-lapsing Board of Education account authorized under state law and board policy. The remaining balance will be deposited into the district's capital reserve account pending final audit results.
Board members also unanimously approved an enrollment study, a district repair and improvement project, and a revised tutor pay rate.

During the meeting, the board approved the district's May 31 budget position report, Purchase Resolution D-807, and budget transfers. All votes were unanimous.
The board adopted revised policies on budget procedures and line-item transfers, confidentiality and access to education records, and parental access to instructional material. A proposed policy on curricular exemptions was removed from the motion before final approval. The revised policies that remained in the motion passed unanimously.

Board members also unanimously approved 15 curriculum offerings, including Group Fitness, Team Sports, Summit Health and Wellness, Summit Citizenship, Nets and Recreational Games, Yoga and Pilates, Exploration in Physical Science, several Early College Experience courses, Drafting and Design courses, Summit Math III, Summit English III, AP Business with Personal Finance, and Digital Media II.
Following an executive session, the board unanimously appointed Katherine Brittain as assistant principal of Hill and Plain Elementary School effective July 1, 2026. Superintendent Janet Parlato participated in the executive session interview process.
The board later entered a second executive session to discuss employment and salary matters involving non-bargaining unit employees. Upon returning to open session, members unanimously approved actions discussed during the executive session.
Earlier in the meeting, the board approved minutes from its May 19 regular meeting by an 8-0-1 vote, with Assistant Secretary Tammy McInerney abstaining. All other actions recorded during the meeting passed unanimously.
