New Milford Boy Gets Scholarship To Fight In Judo Competition
Jayden Sanchez is a completely self-funded athlete, and dreams of one-day competing on the world stage.
Parisian Beauty Academy: “Success Unshared is Failure” is not just a motto of John Paul Mitchell Systems Co-Founder, John Paul DeJoria – It’s a way of life. “JP”, as he is known, has committed his life to philanthropy and encourages those in his circle to do as well. Harry Comp, Jr., President and Co-Owner of Parisian Beauty Academy Paul Mitchell Partner School in Hackensack has always held the same beliefs and principals as his business partner and mentor, “JP”.
When Comp received a letter from Joseph Sanchez, Manager Extra Space Storage – a local Hackensack business, looking for support to raise funds for his 11-year-old son, Jayden, he didn’t hesitate to help. Joseph’s letter explained that Jayden, a nationally-ranked Judo Athlete for USA Judo, was one of only 4 selected to compete for Team USA at the 2019 Infantil Pan American Championship Tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico. As the young Sanchez is self-funded, the family needed to raise the money necessary for travel and lodging expenses. Harry immediately picked up the phone, called Joseph and told him that he would be donating $500 in sponsorship funds for Jayden on behalf of his whole organization. With a student body of 350, staff of 50 and daily guest traffic of approximately 100 people, Harry pledged $1 per person within his school – all of whom also are devoted to the spirit of giving.
Jayden, who lives in New Milford, will be traveling to Mexico on November 7 and competing in the Judo competition for the USA on November 8 and 9. Jayden has trained for the past 6 years with Sensei Celita Schutz, 3X Olympian and a Rokudan (6th degree black belt), founder of Kokushikai Judo Academy in Fair Lawn and Yale graduate as well as Olympic Coach Sensei Matsumura. Says Jayden’s Mother Cynthia, “Jayden trains at Kokushikai Judo Academy throughout the week while
maintaining straight A’s in middle school,” said Jayden’s mother Cynthia. “This fall he was skipped from 6th to 7th grade where he has maintained his excellent academic record though the first trimester.”
