New Milford College Student Studies In The Dominican Republic

He was part of a program that taught English to the community.

From Wilkes University: Domingo Franciamore of New Milford, Ct., was one of nine Wilkes University students who participated in an alternative spring break trip in the Dominican Republic, volunteering with The Guanin Center, Inc. in La Piedra, Santo Domingo. The students worked with the organization to teach the community English. The children and community leaders took English second language classes taught by Wilkes students. Students also interacted with the community members of La Piedra.

Alternative spring break offers students an opportunity to perform community service while experiencing a different culture and developing their leadership, teamwork and critical thinking skills.

Crystal Cool, assistant director of diversity affairs; Erica Acosta, associate director of diversity affairs; and Tyisha Williams, assistant professor of biology accompanied the students on the trip.

Wilkes University is an independent institution of higher education dedicated to academic and intellectual excellence through mentoring in the liberal arts, sciences, and professional programs. Founded in 1933, the university is on a mission to create one of the great small universities, offering all of the programs, activities, and opportunities of a large, research university in the intimate, caring, and mentoring environment of a small, liberal arts college, at a cost that is increasingly competitive with public universities. In addition to 43 undergraduate majors, Wilkes offers the doctor of nursing practice, doctor of education and doctor of pharmacy degrees and more than a dozen master's degree programs, including the master of business administration and master of fine arts in creative writing.
