1 Dead, 2 Injured Including New Milford Man In Fatal Shelton Crash: Police

The crash occurred Tuesday night at the intersection of Leavenworth Road, Birdseye Road and School Street.

SHELTON, CT — A 65-year-old Ansonia man was killed Tuesday night in Shelton in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Leavenworth Road, Birdseye Road and School Street, according to police.

Michael Bonavita succumbed to his injuries at the hospital following the 7:45 p.m. crash, and 60-year-old Gregory Torwich, a passenger in Bonavita's vehicle and also from Ansonia, suffered serious injuries and remains hospitalized in serious but stable condition, said police Wednesday.

New Milford resident Alexander Groski, 28, the driver of the other vehicle, suffered minor injuries, but refused treatment at the scene.

Bonavita was driving a 2004 Jeep Liberty, and Groski was driving a 2007 Dodge Ram pickup truck. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage, but police did not disclose details of the crash as the Shelton Police Traffic Division Reconstruction Team continues its investigation.

"No enforcement action has been taken at this time," wrote police in a statement.
