New Milford Officials to Appear in Court Over Pettibone School Building: Report

The town will be in court regarding claims that funds for the Pettibone School renovation were misappropriated.

NEW MILFORD, CT — Amid claims of misappropriating funds for the renovation of the John Pettibone School building, Town officials will appear in court Thursday over an injunction to stop the renovations, reports the News Times.

Filed by Republican Town Committee chairman Michael Barnes, the suit seeks to stop the renovations alleging that town officials took funds from the Waste Management fund without the Board of Finance's approval. Mayor David Gronbach argues that approval was not necessary because the fund is not made up of tax dollars, reports the News Times.

Barnes also filed a complaint with the state's Department of Public Health over the presence of asbestos in the building. The hearing is scheduled in state Superior Court in Litchfield at 10 a.m. Thursday.
