New Milford Officials Prepare New Budget Plan
The previous plans -- specifically the school portion -- have now been rejected by voters twice.

NEW MILFORD — The Town Council met on Thursday to trim the budgets after the failed referendum earlier in the week, the News Times is reporting.
The new proposed amounts are $63 million for the schools and $39 million for the town -- a $300,000 cut overall. It's less than the last rejected budget, but still $200,000 more than the current year.
The new budget results in something like a 3.3 percent tax increase, which is an increase from the 2.6 percent increase in the last budget.

The town budget has every line item and amount in it that was in the failed referedndum, and then some: an additional $1 million for capital nonrecurring items that are needed but weren’t budgeted for in the last two proposals has been added.
In the two previous failed referendums, it was the school budget with which the voters had a problem. The town budget passed each time.
