New Milford Residents Vote to Keep Great Brook Road Public

NEW MILFORD, CT — Residents voted to keep Great Brook Road public at a town meeting Monday nght, the News Times has reported.

At issue was an area of area of the road that only exists on maps. A vote for discontinuance would have made the lower section of the road private, splitting the land between the two property owners that border the road. These residents would then be responsoble for paying taxes on the property.

Residents opposed to the change had expressed concern that removing town control of the road could create a usable thruway and open it for a development that would ruin their quiet cul-de-sac. Keeping control with the town would also, they argued, ensure people had a place to hike in the area.
