New Milford Reviews Plan to Convert School to Affordable Housing

The developer is also proposing to build two apartment buildings for a total of 75 to 80 dwelling units.

NEW MILFORD, CT — A developer is proposing to purchase the Lillis Building on 50 East St. and convert it into affordable housing, the News Times is reporting.

A letter of intent from Dakota Partners spells out the offer to acquire possession of the building, which currently houses school district’s central offices, for $1.6 million. The developer would restore the historic facade of the old school and add 15 to 20 apartments, a gym and a leasing office. The company also proposes to build two apartment buildings in the back, for a total of 75 to 80 dwelling units.

Next steps? The town would need to sign the letter of intent and a purchase agreement, which would give Dakota the green light to do an engineering and architectural report. The Town Council, the school board, the finance board, and the residents would all also have to approve the initiative.
