New Milford Seeks $400K for Sidewalk Project

The town has a $1.7 million federal grant, but needs to pony up 20 percent of that to trigger it.

NEW MILFORD, CT — The town has a grant from the federal government to install sidewalks along parts of Route 7, but it needs some more of its own money before it can trigger the fed's funds.

The News Times is reporting that New Milford's 1.7 million federal Transportation Alternatives grant requires a 20 percent local match. That's about $400,000 which the Town Council may ask the Finance Board to redirect from the Landfill Settlement Fund.

The project envisions sidewalks installed from the condos to the high school and then to the Savings Bank of Danbury; by Litchfield Crossings; and from Canterbury School to downtown.

The town council will hold off on voting until more members can attend and until they know the deadline for delivery of the town's portion of the funds.
